#MusicalMemories: Days Are Done
Emmy Kay and Adam Lewis share that rare chemistry that lifts a duo from mere collaborators to unforgettable artists. In the vein of The Civil Wars, Loretta and Conway and She and Him, there is something truly compelling about what them perform. As they release their strongest single to date, the captivating You, we caught up with them to take a trip down musical memory lane.

What song reminds you most of your childhood?
Emmy: My Mum used to have an old vinyl of Don McLean’s she played all the time so I’d probably say something like American Pie by Don McLean.
Adam: Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan. My parents bought me a toy drum kit when I was about 3 and I used to play along whenever my Dad put that record on! I’m still a big Steely Dan fan to this day.
Which song inspired you to become a musician/singer?
Emmy: I’m not sure there was a particular song but I’ve always loved melodic music and I remember my parents had a really old scratched St Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club vinyl, I’m not even sure it belonged to either of them! I remember hearing ’She’s Leaving Home’ and just thinking it was so perfect. I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. Maybe that’s where my love of harmonies came from.
Adam Umm – maybe Eagle’s “Take It Easy” or anything off “Appetite For Destruction”.
Which song do you wish you had written?
Adam: That’s a hard question – there are SO many! Idlewild by Gretchen Peters or maybe Living For The City by Stevie Wonder.
Emmy: Definitely way too many to chose so I’m gonna go with Joni Mitchell- A Case of You.
Which artist/band has been the most inspirational to you?
Adam: I don’t think I could ever pick one! Guns N Roses made me pick up a guitar, but those 60s/70s artists like The Eagles, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell really got me into song writing.
Emmy: Ah that’s so hard! I’m inspired by everyone from Frank Ocean to Gretchen Peters! I think Adam and I overlap around The Eagles somewhere!
Which song/album currently dominates your attention?
Adam: I’m still into David Ramirez last record, Fables. He’s a seriously under-rated writer.
Emmy: I’m currently flipping between Stormzy’s Gang Signs & Prayer & Joni’s- Court & Spark
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
A double-duet with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell.
