Leo Sayer new album out now, ‘Restless Years’

It seems strange to say, for a man of such history, that Leo Sayer is perhaps one of the most underrated songwriters of his generation. Yes, he has Grammy Awards and global number one hits to his name, but many might question his place at the top table in the music industry.

With new album ‘Restless Years’, Leo Sayer proves something. Even in the ‘autumn years’ of his career, stripped of the limelight he once held, he is still producing magical songs.

With a pop foundation which meanders through rock, blues, folk, gospel and more, the album is a lesson is versatile but consistent songwriting. There’s nothing here that’s as commercially driven as hits ‘Thunder in my Heart’ or ‘You Make Me Feel Like Dancing’, but the album is all the better for it. The absence of such radio fodder leaves room for real substance – which is great to hear from a songwriter with such timeless talent.
