#MusicalMemories: Reverieme

Reverieme has just released one of the most stunning albums you will have hear. Straw Woman may be bigger sounding than it’s predecessors, but Reverieme has lot none of her wit, charm and intelligent lyrical insight. We caught up with her to take her on a trip down musical memory lane.

What song reminds you most of your childhood?

My formative musical experiences came from my brother, my sister and my mother. It’s why I can’t hear anything by Faith No More, Marilyn Manson or Chris De Burgh without feeling the urge to play with Barbie dolls.

Which song inspired you to become a musician/singer?

When I was around 10 or 11, I was obsessed with ‘Up’ by REM. I’d stolen the CD from one of my siblings and I obsessed over the sleeve notes until I knew the words to every song. When I started playing the guitar a few years later, those were the songs I’d cover most often. I don’t know if they inspired me to start writing, but they were definitely part of my foundations.

Which song do you wish you had written?

Most of the Neutral Milk Hotel back catalogue would do. One day, I’ll fall in love with an historical figure and come up with something as good as ‘Holland, 1945’.

Which artist/band has been the most inspirational to you?

I’d probably say the Dresden Dolls and Amanda Palmer, for a million different reasons. I remember meeting her at a concert once and coming across like an uncontrollably blithering mess; awe is a tricky emotion to convey.

Which song/album currently dominates your attention?

‘Good Times!’ by The Monkees has been rattling around the house and car for a couple of weeks now. It has various sublime and ridiculous moments, but Ben Gibbard’s contribution is a really lovely track that seems to have wandered straight off a Death Cab record.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I don’t play terribly well with others, but I’d happily sit in Kate Bush’s presence and melt into a pool of goo.
