SnakeMary Unveil the First Single off Debut Album
After two years of toil, lengthy auditions and chance encounters, SnakeMary are set to release their much anticipated debut single ‘Lay By The River’.
With the hugely talented guitarist and songwriter Kevin Barber at the helm, the band was formed with the intention to make the record he had always intended to. Relocating from sunny L.A. to Suffolk, Barber began piecing the album together and auditioning for the all important role of lead singer. This proving to be worthless, yielding only pub singers and X Factor wannabes, it was a chance trip to Germany which completed the band’s formation. Attending a jam session in the slightly seedy area of Neukolln, Barber discovered the talented Beccy Brennan. The skilled singer and vocal coach had the perfect voice for the project, a combination of Etta James and Janis Joplin. She took to the material and later introduced her partner Damon Sawyer to the project, a recording engineer and session drummer who has played with the likes of Paul Rodgers.
‘Lay By The River’ marks the band’s first single and a culmination to their journey. Showcasing the band’s range of talents, the single blends catchy blues guitar riffs, chugging bass lines and Brennan’s cool vocals. Evoking elements of the great blues guitarists, such artists as Buddy Guy, Rory Gallagher and Joe Bonamassa can all be heard. The band’s experience within the industry is also immediately perceptible as first-class musicianship is coupled with great material.
A glimpse into the band’s upcoming full-length album ’11 17’, the single will certainly whet the appetite for this record. ‘Lay By The River’ will be released on June 10th.
