However, there are some car related hobbies that can be quite expensive. So if you are on a budget, this probably isn’t something that you’ll be able to get into all of the time. Karting, for example, can be something that can be really fun. But as we learn from F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, his dad worked three jobs in order to afford normal living costs and paying for Lewis’ karting. So with all of that in mind, here are some of the things that you can do if you have a little less to spend, but still want to embrace a hobby around cars and motors.
Tinkering with gadgets
If you are not looking to spend a lot, then this is something that fits the bill nicely. If you want to be involved with cars, then having a go and modifying gadgets, or just generally tinkering with them, can be a good hobby for those interested in cars. All you would need is an old car, but these can be pretty inexpensive to come by; after all, you don’t need it to be in good condition at all. You can take parts off, add things, dismantle things, and then put them all back together. It is a good way to learn more about mechanics, and great for something that is physical and hands on.
Collecting car parts
On a similar note, another hobby that is pretty inexpensive is collecting car part. It is important to point out that you don’t even need to really purchase brand new parts, because you could just go to auto shops and look for what is discounted, as well as scrap yards for old car parts. You can source these from all over, and it can be fun to restore them, or just tinker with them for an old car of yours perhaps.
Gaming
If you are a fan of driving, then a cheaper way to do this as a hobby, rather than driving for miles and miles and spending a lot on gas, is to get into gaming, or specifically car gaming. There are so many drifting games and car games out there, that you can practice your skills and learn things like racing lines, and so on. The games are all about control, so it can be something that can follow on and be relevant for other areas of your life.
Car exhibitions
There are many car enthusiasts all over the world, so there is likely to be car exhibitions and tours in a city close to you. This can be a good place to meet like-minded people, as well as help you to learn more about different kinds of cars, as there can be exhibitions for all different styles and groups of cars. You could even record the exhibitions and make them into videos, which brings us onto the next point.
Video content and car reviews
If you have ever watched something like Top Gear, you will know how much of an interest there is in car content online. It could be fun days out or unusual places with cars, as well as car reviews and talking about your experiences. These kinds of videos do so well online, especially on YouTube. So if this sounds like something that interests you, there is definitely a market for that. It can be a really addictive hobby, especially where all of the video creation and editing is concerned. You are likely to create or meet a community of people that are all interested in it too, whether you want to do it to earn money or just do it because you love cars.
Car detailing
Are you the kind of person that has your friends call you up when they’re looking to get a new car, or wants you to go with them when they go and buy a used car? If the answer is yes, then trying car detailing as a hobby can be a really good idea. It is all about giving opinions to others, especially if they are having problems with their cars. It can mean some reading up on manuals and so on, but it can help you to have some really valuable insight, that people do pay for as well.
