#MusicalMemories: Izzy Flynn
Leeds based Izzy Flynn has just released our favourite song of the year. The stunningly dark and brooding electro minimalism of Medicine is sheer genius. We simply could not wait to take her on a trip down musical memory lane…
What song reminds you most of your childhood?
Sweet Female Attitude – ‘Flowers’
Which song inspired you to become a musician/singer?
Case of You -Joni Mitchell, she is so artistic in her storytelling.
My family inspired me to be musical and doing tours where I was backing singing and playing keys made me realise how much closer to my heart performing my own music would be.
Which song do you wish you had written?
A song by another artist that I greatly admire is ‘Do You Remember’ by Jarryd James. This whole first EP is really punchy, catchy and full of smooth vocals.
Which artist/band has been the most inspirational to you?
Lauryn Hill inspires me greatly. The passion and raw feeling in her voice, her tasteful chords, singable melodies-mainline and backing vocals, hard hitting beats – its magic.
Which song/album currently dominates your attention?
Nina Simone – ‘How It Feels To Be Free’. I can’t take my eyes off her live performance in Montreux 1976 – she’s in the zone.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I’d love to write a song with Paul Simon. I like the freedom he has in storytelling…an alien came down to earth…what did it do next…it left immediately.
